Sturm Graz has rejected a permanent deal for loan player Rory Wilson. The Scot joined Sturm Graz in the winter of 2026 from Aston Villa, but his playing time was scarce. Sport director Michael Parensen explains why. "We are looking for a bigger striker who feels more comfortable playing with his back to the opponent's goal and who can create space for our other fast attackers. That's why the answer is no for now", says Parensen regarding a permanent signing. Rory Wilson joined Sturm Graz in the winter of 2026 on loan from Aston Villa. However, the Scot played only four games with a total of 23 minutes of playing time. "We have been observing Rory for a long time, as we first made contact in the winter of 2025. We have been following his performances and always had an eye on his abilities – particularly his goal-scoring qualities and his strength in the box. We wanted to bring additional quality to the team in the winter, as we were struggling to score goals and lacked presence in the opponent's box", reveals Sport Director Michael Parensen now to "The Athletic". The start was difficult. "It was tough for Rory because we signed him on the last day of the transfer window. He arrived here and completed his first training session without sleep because his flight was delayed", says Parensen. Not entirely unhappy with the Scot, however. "After a week, he showed exactly what we expected. He was strong in his finishing and had a good ball control. He met all the requirements and gained muscle mass because we had a special program for him to become physically stronger. My impression of his character and attitude was very positive. He is not the type who makes jokes all the time or is particularly extroverted, but he has self-confidence", says the Sturm Sport Director. The attacker did everything that was asked of him. "If he had to run additional meters to make up for the lost playing time, he did that. After training, he helped to remove the goals and collect the material. He never gave up", explains Parensen. Nevertheless, the 20-year-old's playing time under Ingolitsch was scarce. Despite the positive words, Sturm is not pursuing the Scot.
