Sturm Graz completes million-euro signing of Luis Balbo Sturm Graz has signed a new left-back. The 20-year-old Venezuelan Luis Balbo joins from AC Fiorentina for a €1.5 million fee. Balbo signed a long-term contract with the Graz side and is expected to fill the void left by Emir Karic’s departure. ## Who is Luis Balbo? The 20-year-old Balbo is a Venezuela international and spent the last 18 months at Fiorentina. He was trained in Portugal at FC Porto and Famalicao. Last season, he made ten appearances for Fiorentina’s first team, starting three times. ## Why is Balbo important for Sturm Graz? Michael Parensen, Sturm Graz’s sporting director, is pleased with the signing: "Balbo has excellent dynamism and offensive drive. At his young age, he is already a senior international and has gained experience in a top league in Italy." Sturm Graz finished last season top of the Bundesliga with 38 points from 22 games, one point ahead of Red Bull Salzburg. ## What does Balbo say? Balbo is also excited about the move. Before joining, he sought advice from Oliver Christensen, who spent last season on loan at Sturm. "I’ve only heard good things about Sturm and Graz from Oliver Christensen, so the decision to join was easy," Balbo said. "Sturm is an ambitious club-just like I am as a player-and will be back in Europe this fall. They’re known for giving young players a chance. I can’t wait to get started with the team!"
