Who is the new stadium announcer for Sturm Graz?
Dennis Buchrieser, a longtime sports broadcaster and devoted Sturm fan from Wagna, took the official stadium announcer role on June 12 2026. After a multi‑stage selection process that saw about 60 applicants showcase their skills, he emerged as the winner. His first live call will be at the next home match of the Black‑Whites in Graz‑Liebenau.
How did the selection process unfold?
The club opened applications in spring. Following an initial screening, nine candidates were invited to a live casting at the stadium. They had to present a team lineup, conduct a surprise interview and deliver a mock stadium announcement. The jury – including Sturm CEO Thomas Tebbich, Paul Pizzera and Nici Schmidhofer – then shortlisted three finalists for personal interviews at the Messendorf training centre. Buchrieser ultimately convinced the panel.
Why is Buchrieser the right fit?
Buchrieser brings over a decade of experience as a sports commentator. He started in American football, working since 2018 for the Styrian Reavers, Styrian Bears and Graz Giants. Later he commentated for the Graz 99ers, SV Tillmitsch and Sturm Graz’s second team. He has already stepped in as a substitute stadium voice for the first‑team matches, giving him a solid understanding of the club’s atmosphere.
What does this mean for supporters?
From now on Buchrieser will actively shape the stadium vibe. His voice will announce line‑ups, goal attempts and special events, heightening the live experience. For loyal fans it adds a familiar face – a voice that genuinely conveys the passion of the Black‑Whites.
How is Sturm Graz performing currently?
The club sits atop the Austrian Bundesliga: 1st place with 38 points from 22 games (12 wins, 2 draws, 8 losses). They have scored 33 goals and conceded 26, a +7 goal difference. The lead is a single point ahead of Red Bull Salzburg. Their latest result was a solid 2‑0 victory over Rapid Vienna on May 17 2026, and recent form shows four wins in the last five matches, including a current four‑game winning streak.
