Sturm Graz sign Matoshi as Malone departs

Sturm Graz was active on the transfer market on Monday to bolster their squad for upcoming tasks. According to Der Standard Sport, the providers secured the services of Valmir Matoshi. The 23-year-old forward signed a long-term contract to secure his future in Styria. Matoshi brings valuable experience from Switzerland, where he previously celebrated as a Swiss champion with FC Thun.

At the same time, another personnel matter was resolved on the transfer market: Maurice Malone is leaving the club for the US side Minnesota United. The move to the MLS had been announced beforehand. Malone managed only four goals in 40 appearances for Sturm Graz. He was therefore considered a transfer flop, as he did not consistently meet the original expectations.

These moves come at a time when the team is fighting for the top spots. Sturm Graz currently sits in 3rd place in the Bundesliga with 8 points from 4 games (2W-2D-0L). With a form of DWWD, the team trails just one point behind league leaders Rapid Vienna. In offense, five goals have already gone this season while only two were conceded.

Despite the new signings, the squad remains occupied. Currently, Filip Rózga, Otar Kiteishvili, and Daniil Khudyakov are missing from training. With Matoshi, Sturm Graz wants to further increase depth in attack. The next challenge follows away from home against Austria Vienna on October 10, 2026.
